Goldson International Airport is the main arrival point for many travelers to Belize. However, some choose an alternative route, where their international flight arrives/departs out of Cancun, Mexico. Should this be you, the following will prove to be helpful.

If you are planning to fly to the Cancun Airport or travel by bus to from Cancun to Chetumal we can arrange or help with your plans as well. We can have a taxi company pick you up, with uniformed employee, upon your arrival, who specializes in fast and reliable travel services within Belize and neighboring cities in Mexico.

In addition, they are knowledgeable of trans-border requirements, and as such, you can be at ease with cross border travel. They will meet you at the ADO bus station (in Chetumal) or at the airport in Chetumal City. All taxis are equipped with air-conditioning systems to provide passengers with relaxing environs, capable of accommodating large groups, as well as single travelers.

To cross over from Chetumal to the main point Corozol, Belize and vice versa will take around forty-five (45) minutes. This cross includes the two borders and customs. You will need to have a valid Passport and a Mexican Visa for entering Mexico. Also a small departure fee is required when leaving the country of Belize.

Upon your arrival to Corozal, you will then have the option to take a boat or to take a flight to San Pedro. Please inquire as to the times and prices for these transfers, as the costs and times may vary depend on day and time of travel. We will be happy to assist you with booking these transfers, please check with us!

The main forms of land transportation on-island are golf carts (used in place of cars), and bicycles, and go by water, on the Island Ferry water taxi to reach the north end of Ambergris Caye.

Most people who live on the main part of San Pedro, own their own golf carts and /or bicycles.

You as a visitor, staying in town, on the either have a choice of renting a golf cart (there are a few companies on-island – we can assist with finding you the most cost effective option) , or renting a bicycle (these are easily located in town, you can ask your concierge for directions).

If you are a visitor staying in the north end of Ambergris Caye or if you would like to visit the north end of the island, you will need to become familiar with the island water taxi called the Coastal Express.

This island water taxi, called the Coastal Express has scheduled stops up and down the coast and its prices vary depending on how far up the coast, and at what time you would like to travel. The office for the Coastal Express is located in the heart of San Pedro, on the Amigos Del Mar dock, and in order to catch this taxi from town, you must go to the dock at the designated time- the schedule is on the dock, you can check with your concierge at your hotel, or check the section entitled island water taxi in this website.

You will arrive at the dock, approximately 1hr after departure, in San Pedro, where the Tacklebox Bar is located. From here it is to you to choose your destination. There are land taxis available (also vans identified by green license plates) or you may choose to walk to your destination. Should you be headed for a hotel, or resort located to the North End of Ambergris Caye, you will need to find your way to the Island Ferry, located at the Fido’s Bar dock, just a 5 min walk north of your arrival point on island. You may find information such as rates and schedule, for the Island Ferry which runs north of the Ambergris Caye cut in another section entitled Island Watertaxi.

Once you have arrived in Belize City at Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, you will head through to Belize Immigration, collect your luggage and make your way through Belize Customs.

On the other side of Belize Customs someone will assist you with your luggage. It is at this point that you will either be escorted to your taxi or to your flight to San Pedro. There are 2 (two) ways to get to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

1. By Air- Once you exit Belize Customs, someone will escort you and your luggage to the domestic air terminal. It is better to pre-book your tickets (of course we can do this for you) to assure you of space on the flight. Although more expensive than traveling by land/sea, it also is only a 15min flight compared to 1.5-2hrs by land or sea. The actual rate of this flight is 63US pp/one-way or 120US pp/round trip. You will give your name, present your eticket), get your boarding pass, go through security and board your flight.
