"My credit expired" means that as I hadn't topped up my account within the requisite period, which depends on how much and when the previous credit was (it's 30 or 90 days), it gets wiped from my phone. Unlike the British practice that it doesn't expire if you're using it, in Belize they only count top-ups. Using it doesn't help.
But all is well. I went into BTL this morning, got nowhere with the Customer Service counter clerk, and saw the supervisor. She saw my point that losing $455 (not $350!) simply because I had forgotten to add extra credit was a bit unfair and she refunded the lot. As a "one-off ex-gratia" gesture. So I never got to resolve the issue that they had cancelled my credit two hours early.
While I was waiting I skimmed through some of their promotional brochures. Consistently they use terms like "in 30/90 days" without being specific as to what they mean, and they also refer to "30 days" and "one month" as being synonymous. They don't seem to have heard of precision. I think they make a lot of money from cancelling credit that people have forgotten to top up.
So all's well, but I am now even more wary of them. I also asked how it was that in the two years since GoB took ownership they haven't removed their various internet blocks aimed at preventing VoIP. She seemed to think they had, so I showed her on her own computer that you cannot access
www.skype.com. I suspect the reason they haven't removed the blocks is simply that they don't know how to.
