I've heard that you can surf out at Long Caye but I don't recall seeing any surfing excursions offered.

Is the surfing just really bad or is it not offered for some reason.

Assuming you're talking about the Long Caye in Lighthouse Reef (there are lots of others) I would think opportunities are extremely limited.  And surfers prefer to end on a sandy beach rather than lots of sharp coral.

I had heard that this was the only place to surf and not land on sharp coral.  But perhaps the person I was chatting with didn't know what he was talking about.

I'm not sure which Long Caye it would be... I didn't know there was more than one.

AFAIK that island is still totally inside the LH reef, so you couldn't surf to the island, just to the reef.  Can't speak at all for the others.

I met a guy that said he surfed up by Rocky Point on the island. Can't confirm this since he was drinking in Fidos. Cool

Slick Rock is a well respected travle/adventure company.  Been watching them for years and bumped into two of their groups at Caves Branch a few years ago.     I doubt seriously if they would misrepresent anything.

OK, that's Long Caye in Glover's Atoll.  Never been there, but I can well believe it is suitable for surfing.  Won't be world-class surfing I'm sure, but given the right sea conditions pretty good.

I find it interesting that no one is doing day trips from San Pedro.  It can't be much farther than the Blue Hole.

Just a thought.......since Slick Rock owns (according to the article) the part of the caye nearest to the surfing area, they do not permit beach access to others?

I thought all beaches were "Queen's Land" and were open to the general public.

I'm in agreement, PJ, just making a guess.  The beaches may be public but what about support facilities: docks/restrooms/etc? With no place to drop their pax..........

Personally I think the tour op's on AC know their markets well enough and if there was a need, even infant, "someone" would be doing it.  I know of one and can think of a couple others who would be all over it.

On my october trip last year, we brought a group from San Diego with us that would have been all over a surfing excursion.

well,  now that you know of a potential location,  the next time they come, perhaps you can negotiate a tour op to take you/them.
