"I've decided I cannot support the treaty," said McConnell on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning. "I think the verification provisions are inadequate, and I do worry about missile defense implications."
Perhaps McConnell knows more about the verification process in the treaty that you do - surely more than I do - and that would be justification for "treaty killing" in my book. Yes the citizens are piss-ants when they do not know the specifics - just like Obamacare- and their opinion ignorant opinions shoul;d be ignored. If I "knew" better I wouldnt say "screw you" Id say F you! Oh no wait.........lets just get it signed so OTO can claim another accomplishment. BS!

The Joint chiefs support the treaty.....I guess they're piss ants too!! When it comes to the GOP...political goals always supersede the goals of America. http://dpc.senate.gov/docs/fs-111-2-187.htmlKyl needs a long nap. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20101219/pl_nm/us_nuclear_usa_start"Over the course of six months of hearings and briefings, one by one, the secretary of defense, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the heads of STRATCOM and the Missile Defense Agency and former officials from the last seven administrations, Republican and Democrat alike, all told senators the same thing - the New START treaty makes us safer and should be ratified by the Senate."

The fact that OTO wants to rush all these laws through during a lame duck session is enough for me to say. NO NO NO !!! Who or when has this ever been done before?

"The New START Treaty has the unanimous support of America's military leadership—to include the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, all of the service chiefs, and the commander of the U.S. Strategic Command"http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703339304575240164048611360.htmlI guess if I'm going to have a slanted opinion it might as well be slanted with the above referenced leaders of the military. But hey...everyone knows Kyl knows more than any of them put together. This Treaty has been in committee for 8 months.......8 months....not a week ago. this is no more than a political maneuver. I know it, you know it, and 73% the American people know it. I guess they all have a slanted opinion too. PS The first Start Treaty was proposed by Ronald Reagan in 1982....when he left office his Start I amendment was being drafted and finally approved in 1991. I guess Ronnie had a slanted opinion about MAD too.

"The New START Treaty has the unanimous support of America's military leadership"
hmmm I wasnt aware the military -yeah that military that the left has nothing but disdain for - was in charge of negotiating treaties. I would even "question" their input.
Kill it! Leave it for the new Congress!

Great cliche Ry..........you know ..the one about the left having disdain for the military. I have no idea what that remark has to do with a Senate vote....but hey....when you're all out of bullets...... Back to the issue. There are 4 right wing senators bucking a Treaty supported (not negotiated) by the military, George H W Bush and 73% of the American people. They all just got re-elected so I guess they figure they can give the entire nation the finger.............well almost the whole nation.....they do have you and your 3 friends support...oh I forgot Hannity and Rush too!!

It is certainly a mistake to limit in any way our defensive weapons. OTO claims it doesn't but that is not clear and Russia will not agree that it doesn't with an acknowledgement. Quite the contrary. OTO refuses to make the background papers to the negotiations available for review (or at least he did, maybe in this last meeting the other day he made some available). OTO gave away some of our defensive capability in Europe already and got nothing in return except he offended some of our allies. The shield in Europe should have went forward, that was a mistake.
This treaty is only between Russia and the USA. Where is China in the equation? They are increasing military sending greatly, how to we meet that threat? A strong offensive capability has kept us safe for over 50 years, now we abandon this policy? China is very busy building their second China wall for 2nd strike capability while we stay dormant. Where is any thought about North Korea or Iran or whomever they give nuclear weapons to? There may be answers to these questions but we will not know without hearings where both sides participate. To enter a treaty when these important points are not clear does not make sense. In addition the dems didn't think this was important enough to discuss and bring to a vote earlier so what is the rush now? I would think no treaty or at least status quo is better than a treaty which may hamper us in the future.
Lastly it is the primary purpose of government to keep us safe. They should concentrate on that.

I had a few more thoughts while at work today. Don't you feel good about your security with Team Obama? OTO, frequently apologizes and states that American greatness is behind us. Janet Napolitano, US Secretary to Homeland Security. She is on the job 364 days a year and said she had everything under control on the last couple of terrorist attempts even though they where not stopped by her department. Also very keen on stopping the invasion which is occurring on our Southern Border. (NO) Eric Holder, US Attorney General. Very good on suing Arizona to make sure Illegal immigrants are free to roam around the USA. Also known for the recent lost at the trail of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He informed us that he had a very strong case against KSM. (should have been a military trail) James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence who had no idea about news of 12 terror-related arrests in Britain Monday when asked on a news show on Tuesday. (He must be out of the loop) There you have 4 (there are plenty more) reasons not to sleep at night and not to have to much faith in any treaty negotiated by this administration.

The Start treaty has absolutely nothing to do with Barack Obama or negative opinions about him and his administration. It has everything to do with the will of the American people. Amazingly 73% of Americans support the Start treaty, first proposed by President Reagan, and 71% of all US senators agree. That includes, I believe 14 sober minded Republicans who have read the treaty that was proposed 8 months ago, and is even on the internet for all to see. http://www.fas.org/nuke/control/start1/text/index.htmlNo one was rushed to read this. A 4th grader could have read this in 8 months. the Start Treaty is an arms reduction treaty between Russia and the United States. It is not about China or North Korea or Iran. The US negotiators wanted to be sure and not be limited on their deployment of weapons for potential defense from those countries without having this treaty impede their ability to do so. On January 1st the new Republican congress can wage their partisan war against the administration and revert to back grid lock while the American people sit on the sidelines and plot their revenge in 2012. As usual the independents will determine the outcome of the 2012 elections based on their opinions of who was actually working for them, and not their respective parties. In the meantime despite the rabid right wingers in the senate....the Start Treaty passed. It was the peoples will. http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/22/start/index.html?hpt=SbinIt looks like the moderates won.......................again

One example of how Start could deter our missile defense strategy. I'm sure more will follow. A political victory for OTO at the expense of the safety of the USA and the World. http://www.usni.org/vice-admiral-obama-was-outmaneuvered-russians-startMiller, who helped prepare the National Strategic Target List and Single Integrated Operational Plan for waging nuclear war and later participated in arms control meetings with the Soviet government, expressed concern that START could leave the United States vulnerable to other emerging threats. “The treaty prohibits the conversion of an existing ballistic missile system into a missile defense system,” said Miller. “We might want to do that with a Trident or an ICBM sometime in the future, particularly if the Chinese alleged threat materializes.”

Another frustrated right wing Republican who used to be a Vice Admiral, who agrees with the 26% of the senate. Obviously 71% of the senate and 73% of the American people knows he's full of shit "You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time" We will see in the fullness of time. Hopefully no major harm will be done to our country to further a political position. Off Topic Mike and fellow board members, today is my last day on the job and I join the retired ranks. I do have to go up to Boston one day in January to turn in my badge and to say good by to all the people who supported me out in the field these years. I've been blessed with two great careers. One as the Chief Engineer/Operations Manager of a few large electric generating stations and one as an Engineer/Law enforcement officer for the State. Worked with and met a lot of great people...absolutely no regrets in my life. Be in San Pedro soon. PS Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you
