with all the money flying around these days, this has been a very interesting item to choose to fight.

I agree that there is no where near the accountability needed in this bill.  Fight for the accountability, but ultimately vote for it and don't fight it because it would be a Democrat victory -- it's a victory for first responders for heaven's sake.

It always feels good to know that one's opinion is shared by the majority, and not the minority of Americans.

It's amazing how support wanes when there are no more points to be made out of a national trajedy

What's with the Obama bull shit?  If I remember Obama only wanted middle class tax cuts,  when the Republicans wanted all the tax cuts, estate tax cuts and more.

the legislation passed the house with a vote of 277 to 148 and passed the senate 81-19 (there's only 56 democrats in the senate)

I also remember all the left wing carping about Obama caving to the will of the Republicans.

You need to do a little more homework son..........the trillion dollars was the work of the Republicans.

I guess I should have stated that 56% of Americans approve of Obama's lame duck session, and his job approval rating has jumped up 3 percentage points, in just a few days to 49%.  He only has to gain 2 more percentage points to achieve minimum coalition (2nd term!)   Grin

It's worth noting that the 9/11 bill finally passed after the outrageous amounts that would have been paid to attorneys were reduced to a maximum of 10% in any given case. I think that was one of the main GOP objections to the bill...the original would have given 30-40 percent of taxpayers monies to attorneys any time attorneys were involved.

Pity that mainstream media doesn't report it that way.

One would have to read the mainstream media to actually know what they do and do not report Wink

Is the Communist News Network a member of the feared mainstream new media?

"According to Coburn, the agreement reduces the overall cost of the bill by $2 billion to a total of $4.2 billion over a 10-year period. His statement said that $1.5 billion of the cost goes for health benefits and $2.7 billion will pay for compensation for health problems of emergency responders.

The agreement also caps attorneys' fees at 10 percent of any total compensation award, and includes potential limits on compensation for individuals who already have received workers compensation for injuries due to the 9/11 response, the Coburn statement said."
