I find this extremely interesting: "...when you hear of a disagreement between state or local governments and unions that represent government workers, is your first reaction... To side with the governments 38% To side with the unions 44%" Do you know how bad you must be, in this day and age, to have 40% of the population's first reaction to be to side with government rather than you??? wow.

Sixty-four percent said they don't think "government employees" should be represented by labor unions.
I'll drink to that!

In Europe usually France the Unions shut down the country every once in a while. I used to laugh to myself about that but maybe it is coming to the States. At least on a State by State basis by government unions.

When ideology meets reality for the Wisconsin governor.
"Florida Governor Rick Scott came out against taking away collective bargaining rights from public employees during a radio interview today:
“My belief is as long as people know what they’re doing, collective bargaining is fine,” Scott said in an interview with WFLA Radio in Tallahassee. Scott said what he means is that as long as the discussion is honest about what benefits employees are getting, he has no objection to public employees being members of unions."

ABOUT WISCONSIN CORPORATIONS: among corporations with more than $100 million in revenue, more than 60% paid no state income tax. These included non-Wisconsin companies like Kraft Foods, McDonald’s, Microsoft, and PepsiCo, and Wisconsin-based companies like Johnson Controls, Manpower, Kohl’s, Harley-Davidson, and Rockwell Automation. They also found that of the total tax revenue in the state, only 3% came from corporations; in contrast 36% came from property taxes, 29% from sales taxes, and 26% from individual income taxes.

Mike, The subject is the out of control wages and benefits of the State/City/Town employees. This is happening in many States especially in areas that tend to be in control of Liberals and Democrats. When public employees wages and or benefits get this out of whack a re-balancing is in order. The governor has stated that this is not a total answer and other items must be done to reduce spending. The problem with increasing taxes is that there is no end on ways to spend additionally. Lately our past spending habits are coming home to roost because of commitments already made that go out into the future. Most reasonable people have no problem with adjusting other taxes after spending is reduced but not before. This has been tried many times before and does not work. Not one penny more until the spending problem which OTO has made much worst is under control. Public Employee Unions are a bad idea. They collect dues to elect people that they later negotiate their wages and benefit packages with. What the hell is wrong with that picture? ENOUGH!

First of all Obama just got here......It's taken a lot of years of runaway spending before him to get to this point.....but we'll talk about that later. I agree about reducing spending....but in some instances when the circumstances are dire...budget cuts and taxes are the only way out. that's the problem in California. A problem that could have been half solved 5 or 6 years ago has not been improved one bit because neither side will come to the table and compromise. A new governor suggests a measure be put on the ballot so the taxpayers have a chance to voice their opinion as to whether taxes should be included in a way out of the problem and the other side decides for the taxpayers that their voice should not be heard. that my friend is what is wrong. When a party's platform is more important than the voice of the people that party needs to remember who they work for. Two-thirds of Republicans in the California Legislature announced Wednesday that they were forming a new group and pledged not only never to vote to raise taxes but also to block efforts to place a tax-hike measure before voters. These guys are nothing more than petty dictators. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/california-politics/2011/02/new-gop-.html

Gee, I thought California had more than their share of taxes. Maybe I was wrong? I don't think so. OTO, just got here? I can't wait till he has been here for a while. More taxes = more spending. Enough already.

The taxes they're talking about were enacted 4 years ago. One was the increase in the cost of car registration. It's due to expire. the simple fact is that I feel I and my fellow Californians should have the right to choose for ourselves if we want to continue the tax or make up the difference with cuts to public services. Most importantly I resent the leadership of any of the parties deciding whether I should have the right to have the choice. Without the voice of the people the budget impasse we've had for 6 years will continue and bankrupt the state. If the politicians can't choose the course....let the citizens choose the course.
