New Zealand, Japan, and now Burma.  If I lived on the Pacific rim I'd be getting nervous.  Where's next?

Burma's not in the ring of fire Wink

It's not far off it, maybe (I haven't checked) just one plate away.  As tectonic pressures are released there is a knock-on effect on the next plate.

Amazing....so we can that expect that earthquake in Burma to transfer to where?Huh Iran? Israel?  Or does it go north?  Keep me filled in...I'm ready to book another vacation.

I'm (obviously) no expert on this stuff, but I do know that tectonic stresses do sometimes transfer long distances, and that when there is a cataclysmic release of tension/pressure in one place (usually an earthquake) the tension/pressure transfers to other places and makes an event there more likely than it had been.  Specifically I've read that the likelihood of more earthquakes in the vicinity of Japan is now greater than before, though just where the "vicinity" is I don't know.
