Has anyone heard about this? Brownsville, TX to Belize @1400 miles. Oct 2011. Got to try this one. I have wondered about riding in Mexico, but would feel alot better (safer) in a group.

As long as the route doesn't go through Guatemala it should be pretty safe.  Besides, last time I was there, except in the urban areas, all roads were gravel!

The proposed route will go to Chetumal and then to Belize City through Orange Walk. I have inquired as to why we wouldn't barge directly from Chetumal/Corozal. Seems the water would be smoother and saving the 75 miles or so to Belize City would make up for the extra distance by water.

Not my party though, so I have no say. I would also think leaving the bikes in Chetumal would be smart. Paying for security should be cheaper than paying barge fees for the bikes. Not much riding to do on AC and it would keep the tranquility of SP.

More info coming.

Where would they park them in SP?  I'd think security would be a necessity.

Not sure - I have inquired. There are 6 all inclusive resorts available in the deal. I assume you'd park wherever you stay. Local knowledge will come in very handy if any of the resorts are very far North. I have asked about staying anywhere I want.

Not real sure why anyone would steal parts off a motorcycle in SP. Not much of a market there, plus most folks remove anything that is detachable and put it in the room. I am more concerned about the overnight stops traveling through Mexico. I am assuming they will hire security.

These issues have already crossed my mind. I know any tourism is needed in SP, but not real sure I like the idea of possibly 20-30 bikes running around town. (although many folks such as myself will just park'em for the week) This will most likely be a mature and professional crowd (that spend lots of $$$$). Not many hardcore bikers want to deal with international border crossings or ride to seaside fishing villages.

Cheesy Probably not after 1350 miles through Mexico. Add the seaspray from the barge ride and then the dirt roads in SP and you have a pretty dirty bike. I am not one for "cleaning" a bike on a road trip, but there will be others who will shine theirs upon arrival (you know to impress the locals  Huh). If I park close to one of those, my bike will not have much appeal.  Wink

I can't imagine barging bikes out to the island.  That's dedication.

The noise will probably garner a few fingers from the ex pats....the locals will probably like it Grin

Cheesy Cheesy That would be classy, huh? Hopefully, the kids will love it, the locals will love it and the business owners will profit. Even more hopefully, the riders will respect the Caye and get respect in return. Not real sure why this group decided on AC as a destination, but it appears they have knowledge and love for AC. I have no idea who's behind this.
I have a feeling after the 3 1/2 ride down most riders will park the scoots, especially knowing they have to ride back in 6 days, thus my questions about why we don't leave the bikes on the mainland. Other than the novelty of having your bike on SP, really no reason to take them there. I suspect if there is not enough interest this will get scrapped.
