Good to hear.  The sand storm was in the Phoenix area and I'm 90 miles to the North up in the mountains.  Our "monsoon" has been here for a month with not too much rain.  ordep2, you are not far off.  We have been in a "5 year" drought for the past 10 YEARS!!! Just started to come out of it last year.

I thought you were around Prescott....but I wasn't sure how big the area of  the Arab sandstorms were.  Can you imagine having a swimming pool in Phoenix?   Huh

Here in Nj the media is making it sound like we are going to have a nuclear explosion. They have people scared shitless. People are stocking up on weeks of bottled water and not a generator in sight. Being prepared is one thing but this is way to far out.

I'm reading of 90mph winds hitting North Carolina.  90mph is nothing - we often get far worse than that here.  Is this a different sort of 90mph?

OK,"often" is an exaggeration.  But I've experienced those sorts of winds here several times since I've lived on AC.  The highest winds I've seen reached 140mph during Dean in 2007, according to a neighbour's wind gauge.

Ry,  We lucked out and except for a few trees down and a few boats that broke their moorings we have very little damage.   Smiley  I don't think the wind was over 50 mph in my area in Southeastern MA.  I had visions yesterday of much worst. Jeez we didn't even lose electricity for more than a few minutes.

Good night Irene   Wink

You are so full of shit it's running out your ears.  140 mph winds in SP would have put half the town in the lagoon in match sticks and literally cleared the land.  According to NEMo, 75 mph winds were recorded in SP during Dean.  It was reported in the San Pedro Sun.

I don't give a toss what the SP Sun reported.  The weather station & wind gauge were of high quality and three or four buildings away from me, and recorded at least one gust of 140mph, according to the owner.  He now lives in the States but he lived here then.
