Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

No one's preventing the Catholics from exercising their religion.........we're just ensuring the POPE isn't making rules from Rome for the rest of Americans.

LOL! same old right wing bullshit........I don't post from any of those 3 websites........never been to daily koss...or whatever it is. labeling is an integral part of the right wing mantra....too bad FACTS weren't

Jim says,
First of all the minute you quote "The Raw Story" ..... well. Especially coming from the guy who said he doesn't post from Left Wing Sites. Raw Story is a self admitted Left Wing, oh excuse me Progressive Site which is used for material on MSNBC's Ed Schultz and Lawrence O'Donnell, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Real Time with Bill Maher and Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

In other words even the Lame Stream News doesn't cover most of what they write because it is so out there. The issue here is that the Catholic Church owns hospitals, schools, and other services that it does not want to provide certain services that run contrary to their religion. Most Catholics themselves don’t pay much attention to how the church feels on some of these lesser important matters, like birth control. When it comes to unrestricted abortions especially late term; partial birth and post abortions that is a different matter and they share the dislike of these procedures as do the majority of US citizens.

When this administration starts making laws that run contrary to the Muslin religion maybe I would pay a little more attention. The attacks on Christianity by the left on the other hand are in full swing as usual. Clover as one of their loyal soldiers is just carrying the banner.

They're all LEFT WING sites silly....that is except for FOX.  The Raw Story article referenced The Hill....a site I've seen you reference on several occasions......but that's OK......I understand how this works......You guys have learned from Hannity, Palin, Beck, Gingrich et al to defame and slander all news sources except for FOX.  It's how you confirm your "belief" system.....the uber right.  No hard feelings here Wink  You can believe what ever you want....this is America.....just don't tell me what to believe.

Issa has been calling for transparency regarding Countrywide’s VIP loan program since 2008, when Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad (N.D.) and now-retired Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) were revealed as being involved.

The Senate Ethics Committee subsequently cleared Conrad and Dodd, but indicated they should have used better judgment. Dodd opted not to seek reelection last year, and Conrad will retire at the end of 2012.

This quote from THE HILL confirms what's good for the goose ain't good for the gander...UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION....THAT'S THE POINT.

No one is re-writing church law........America is saying they believe in the Constitution.....the separation of church and state.

Not once in the Constitution does it say the POPE shall determine any issue concerning reproductive rights for all Americans.

Catholics need to get their heads out of their asses and relize this is America....and not the Vatican.

You guys go ahead and refuse to use condoms....practice the rhythm method....whatever you like.........but I ain't catholic and I'll do what ever I like without the consent of bishops, cardinals or self ordained popes. Wink

Clover, maybe this will explain the issue to you.   Roll Eyes

http://news.investors.com/ArticlePrint/598818/201201241853/obamacare-now-contravening-1st-amendment.aspx

Quote
Is Obama Trying To Replace The Pope?

Constitution: The First Amendment forbids "prohibiting the free exercise" of religion. But a pontificating President Obama would do just that in forcing Catholics to provide contraception and sterilization.

When it comes to the unnecessary and un-American controversy Obama has caused by having his Health and Human Services Department mandate Catholic contraception and sterilization coverage, the Constitution and Catholic teaching are in accord — and united in opposing the president.

The First Amendment explicitly protects the practice of religion. The Catholic Church has consistently taught that contraception and sterilization are to be avoided as grave evils.

"Any use whatsoever of matrimony exercised in such a way that the act is deliberately frustrated in its natural power to generate life is an offense against the law of God and of nature, and those who indulge in such are branded with the guilt of a grave sin," Pope Pius XI wrote in the encyclical "Casti Conubii."

Correspondingly, the "Catechism of the Catholic Church" published under Pope John Paul II affirmed that "every action which ... proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible is intrinsically evil."

It follows logically that members of a Catholic institution cannot do what Obama demands of them — provide health insurance with contraceptive services, including sterilization and abortifacient drugs — and still exercise the constitutionally protected freedom of practicing their religion. You might as well be forcing a Southern Baptist minister to run a bordello on church grounds.

Obama's intolerance here goes against both religious and secular legal protections within U.S. law. For 50 years, for instance, the federal government has respected the religious objections of Amish Americans, exempting them from having Social Security numbers.

And the Warren Court's 1965 Griswold decision, overturning the arrest and fining of New Haven contraception providers, was based on the 14th Amendment's prohibition of "any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States."

ObamaCare was already on shaky constitutional ground in forcing the purchase of health insurance. Now it is striking at the heart of the First Amendment.

The First Amendment rights can be exercised at will.  If you are a Catholic and do not want to participate in common birth control methods approved for the general population so be it.  Muslims aren't required by the Constitution to eat pork, but citizens of the United States are.  At some point you guys need to see that the Constitution was written for ALL the people...not just the right wing fanatics that would rather see it modified to limit the rights of the general population.  In essence if you're a Catholic abide by your religious belief....but don't expect everyone else in the nation to do the same.  This is America............land of the FREE and home of the brave.....not home of the crazed right wing fanatics who expect everyone to be just like them.  Get over yourselves......and if you don't like America and it's laws of equality.....LEAVE Wink

First Amendment rights are not violated?  Now they want to tell the priests what they can and can not say from the pulpit.  Wink It was resolved because of the bad publicity it was getting but this is the extent this administration would go to.  Sad  Next Numbnuts will start a completing religion.  I know that is against the  constitution.  Problem is that fact doesn't seem to bother him.   Wink

Archbishop to U.S. Troops: Obamacare Reg ‘Is a Blow to a Freedom...for Which You Have Seen Your Buddies Fall in Battle’

(CNSNews.com) - Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who leads the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services, wrote a letter to be read at all Sunday Masses for U.S. military personnel around the world that said that a regulation issued by the Obama Administration under the new federal health care law was “a blow” to a freedom that U.S. troops have not only fought to defend but for which some have recently died in battle.

“It is a blow to a freedom that you have fought to defend and for which you have seen your buddies fall in battle,” the archbishop wrote.

Another line in his letter said: “We cannot—we will not—comply with this unjust law.”

The message from the archbishop touched off a controversy both in and outside the military when the Army's Office of the Chief of Chaplains told the service's senior chaplains that Catholic priests serving as Army chaplains should be told not to read the archbishop's letter from the pulpit.
