San Pedro wins hands down

Best things about Playa is the food -most restaurants provide really good fare at reasonable prices.Lets face San Pedro is average at best.

Hotels our prices are better-well Pedros, Bananas Victoria House are anyway(nb Pedros has gone up imo)

Drinks are cheaper

Diving is better

Staff are more professional

Here (Playa) every two minutes it is time share massages jewellry

businesses are going bust as I write

there are no tourists in playa

Playa is also incredibly hot off the beach, its all concrete heat emitting heat sinks. Our beer is better, few bars seemed to carry my favourite Montejo - so that brewery must be declining as we hit a lot of bars!!! Resorted to Sol after and run of Dos XX, good to get back to a Regular.

I used to hope that San Pedro could emulate Playa if it had to grow. I no longer do. Playa in the mid 90's was great, now it's becoming a Benidorm or Playa de las Americas. Couldn't move without being asked hassled and while I enjoyed the weekend it was enough.

NEWS ALERT, Plane Hijacking in Cancun. Very unusual to see this kind of activity here.  Mexico doesn't want crime problems there, especially right now.  I wouldn't want to be these guys. Cry  Stay safe Peter and crew

The latest report now says the plane is being held at the airport in Mexico City, not Cancun.

Several years ago when they were poisoning dogs here in San Pedro I went to the town board to get a license for Coco. I was told that nobody had ever asked for one before. I was told to go to the health inspector. I said he was the one poisoning the dogs. An official I will not name commented "You don't see any dogs in Playa."

That made me think of other things you don't see in Playa.

Children (unless tourists, I guess they poison them with the dogs)
Playans (unless they are trying to sell you something)
Your bartender from last night in a store.
Your tour guide from yesterday in the same restaurant you are having breakfast.
People who live there just stopping to talk to each other in the street.
Any sense of community.

I always felt I could make a good living there selling t-shirts to tourists that say.
(In English and Spanish)

No Time Share
No Jewelry
No Leather

But then I would have to live in Playa.
