Has anyone tried this? Is it legal to make wine for your personal consumption in Belize? How would one go about making wine for retail?

Mary: Yes, this is what I am asking - Is it legal to make your own wine? Will customs take your wine making kit upon arrival? There are restrictions in the US state to state and limits on quantity as well as age. Perhaps I should ask about beer making as that seems to be a more popular interest on other message boards. Beer making should be similar other than the threat of competition. Unless I am missing something there doesn't seem to be any decent wine made in Belize. I have not tried the Bel-Mar wine, but intend to when I find a retailer that carries it (?Premium).
Pedro: I agree with you on Rendezvous wine (I would call it vinegar at best). You mentioned your experience making wine at Fido's - do you recall what the requirements were for making / selling wine at that point?

next time i come i will see if customs takes the wine kit the issue is getting the juice to make the wine. Here in the US I buy a box of juice and it has instructions on it. the wine is very good.

there is no problem as you are not importing alcohol-it is so simple I bought enough to make a couple of hundred gallons but it was awful-the duty was miniscule -around 30%

i have only made wine with a friend doing most of the work but it was not sweet it was a nice dry red or white and i thought as good as any 20 us dollar wine you can buy in BZ It maybe the type of kit you buy to make the wine i need to double check on the name of the kit.

Last time we came down I brought some wine making materials for snoopiesmom. We have a wine and beer making store in the Dallas area.
I think she has been making wine for a couple of years.
