Amazing that so many people follow this board and have not registered to put ion their views-a few weeks ago people from Belgium were reading the posts for a 10 day period-somebody was on holiday and away from their business on the island-I am incredibly pleased that so many people are reading the board which imo means that it is providing some, maybe not all, good advice.what is amusing is that many people deny reading the board but still talk about it especially when I get knocked by various posters

For example PEIguy stood up to be counted and I am sure he will explain where the gst money has gone-I personally do not eat in restaurants that charge gst but knowing they do not pay it to the govt.

Mark/Spartacus has voiced an opinion that some people believe-my only complaint is that he lies when he says that I told him this or that-as I have not told him anything most things that he has written about me are untrue but he has been told this by other people, and he believes what he has been told and has expanded on these issues.

Some business owners whose businesses I have used in the past-one a cafe and a barge business have objected to my west ambergris property scandals observations but neither of them have said anything to my face except for a couple of emails saying that I hate North Americans-this is not true I can just see that what is promised will not ever become true-ie a golf course,a marina, 3-500 room 5 star hotels etc etc.One has to look at Jeff Pierce (I am not one of his big supporters) but so far he has built what he said he would do and he started after Caye Winds and Brahma Blue-he has built 50 odd villas and 100 or so appts -not all completed but most look like they are near completion. Also we come to my favourite,Sapphire Beach, people are asking for their money back but the developer is refusing and it looks like,at least to me and others, that the project will never be completed by this person.

with the exception of trolls and scam artists we have not banned anyone which pleases me enormously-it did come close-and again imo it is and will become a far more relevant board for tourists and residents alike that the light side because we will print all viewpoints-just look how many posts are obliterated on the other board every day because it may hurt one of the 20 or so admins business interests

Is that so?  I haven't heard it elsewhere.  But there again, you're far better connected than I am.

You'll hear lots of things here that you don't hear elsewhere. You need an information filter.

One thing I've found in my several times to the island...  you can learn a lot by sitting down at a locals bar, ordering a drink and opening your ears.  Say nothing, do not contribute to any conversation, just sit and listen.

You don't always learn facts, but a lot of what you learn is at least based in some fact and gives you a ton of insight into things you never before knew.

But if you are like me, after two or three drinks, you start talking, redirecting the conversation toward drug legalization, obamanomics, religion, or poker theory...  and before you know it, no one learns anything.

Oh God, let's play in the sandbox together,
I didn't say let's be nice, as I agree that isn't necessary, but pot shots serve no one.
I must say I enjoy this space, as I have touristed here 13 years ago and returned every Christmas, and some summers for fishing.  I have seen and heard a lot. My husband and I have exerienced deciding whether to buy a condo, buying and registering a golf cart during 'hard times", and building a house. Living here now, and feeling free to participate in this board, even if I am judged, I like this forum, and I like the other one, even though it is different. We do have a great community.
It's quirky and weird, but who cares? As long as we can continue putting one foot in front of the other, in our own way...what a good place to live....talk to me tomorrow, when the immigration people have put another hurdle in front of me just to get a few bucks, I won't say the same thing. We are just human. We do like connection.

It is an eclectic bunch, eh?  And since you brought it up, it seems that the country's leadership simply does not see the advantages of being "friendly" and "welcoming" to those moving here with money that will help to support the economy.  Oh, well!
