Jason - anything you can do to help here would be great.  The group is coming from all over, not just from Dallas, but that's the only fare I've been quoted.  It's for travel from Dec 26th to Jan 2nd.

Theoretically, the afternoon of October 31st would be the day to buy their tickets.  Airlines will have opened up seats at their lower rates to sell off unsold seats.

I'm not sure exactly how full flights are the week after Christmas in Belize, but I would think most people are coming home, not going there.  If so, then you probably can wait until October to buy.  But if it's also a busy day to leave Belize, they may be out of luck if they wait to buy.

Another tip if they buy their tickets on Orbitz.  Orbitz offers a price guarantee.  If someone buys a ticket for the same flights on the same day at a cheaper price, you get the difference refunded.  There is a link on your itinerary page on Orbitz to check if the refund applies.  It's a good thing to do before you leave.  It's admittedly not too likely to happen if you aren't flying from one of the common Belize departure cities, but worth a check regardless.

Actually, if there are 20 of them and they can coordinate their arrival, they might be able to all fly into Cancun and charter Maya Island Air to pick them all up for a Belize transfer.

I don't know if Maya does charters, but if they are guaranteed 20 seats, it might be worth it to them.  Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Actually if he could change the dates to say dec 25th thru Jan 3rd his airfare cost would probably be cut in half

Those dates are still $1400 rt on AA from DFW to BZE.  Unbelievable and unreasonable.

Continential from IAH to BZE on those dates are half the price at $722

For the dates requested, DFW to CUN is $760 (vs 1600 to BZE).  Add $250 for rt from CUN to BZE and you have still saved $600+ per ticket.  And Maya might throw in transfer to SP if you are chartering the whole plane from CUN.  Again, it doesn't hurt to ask.

one of the busiest times of the year, suppkly & demand.  ...........they will do better to fly in on 25 and depart on 1st.  still wont be cheap, but !  they likely will not find those seats cheap until about 2 weeks prior.  ( at least that has been my experience, having flown numberous times on major holidays around rhe US).

And, Jason, not going to dispute your 8 week out theory, but again, my personal experiences have been 4 weeks out.

Like I said, holiday's might be different, and Belize may be an exception.  The discount ticket hint sites all say about 8 weeks for the general rule.  Just regurgitating what I've read.

The site is offline for now.  The API I was using to search the fares has been discontinued.

I've been getting airfare watchdog emails of cheaper flights every now and then.  There was a rate of $280 from houston recently but it didn't last long.  Cheapest I've seen recently from most locations is in the mid $600 range.

Here's a cool site I use a lot.   It  has practically every fare for pratically every airline - real time.  You cannot purchase on the site.  Why mess around with Orbitz, etc when they get their info here and lots more as well?  The best I have found....
