There are 38-46 orphans(numbers vary due to some going and then coming back from their relations) -my idea would be for me to post pictures of each child-we could then each befriend a particular child-hopefully they would write their befriender a letter each month to say how they were getting on.

MY suggestion is that if anyone is interested is to write 12 post dated cheques of 80 bzd per cheque payable on the first day of each month -this would raise nearly 40k for the orphanage and give them much needed breathing room

we will post the pictures in the next few days

There are two girls with special needs in wheelchairs -sorry but Laurie has befriended one and I the other

Nice thought, but UNICEF does the same thing.

And would these postdated cheques be payable to Pedro's Inn and we would trust you to use it properly?

Any idea how much of your "contribution" to UNICEF actually makes it's way to the intended recipient?

the ages are 2-14 -the cheques will be made out to Liberty Orphanage and held by Janet who is Rebecca Arceo's mother-she was taken to South Africa by Oprah(twice) to help open the school/orphanage there

I'm in. Where do I bring the checks.
I am well aware if this facility. They need help to keep their doors open. As far as I know all the kids are placed by the Department of Human Development social workers and are the neediest of the neediest.

Can they take checks in USD?  Also is it possible to send a check directly to the orphanage?

You actually have much tighter control of the money with Janet holding on to it. She can keep a good grip on how it is spent

Is there reason not to trust the Orphanage?

No. It is a solid facility. I just know Janet and she is incredibly thoughtful, careful, and steady and will help the managers make good decisions. She has a lot of experience in this area and is on the board.  Generally boards that raise money are able to recommend where it goes.

I don't know Janet or her mother but I have heard of Oprah. What board is Janet on?
