Crazy, crazy, crazy! I agree Bob. I live about 30 miles from there and have always meant to go, only to observe, but I never remember. Strangely enough, I have never heard of anybody having a medical emergency while swimming. I'm surprised at the girls in bikinis but I guess a one piece wouldn't make it any warmer.

You Canadians are nuts! Painfully nuts. As cold as it is - I wouldn't think you could feel pain, much less anything else.

2ag, you try it and let us know. It's probably more shock than pain. As for frost bite, the pain comes when you are thawing out, just like a burn.

I have swum in Lake Huron in mid-May when the water temp was 55-60F and believe me, it was not comfortable and it was a quick in and out, just to say I did it. It was better to walk in about 10 feet from shore and then dive in, rather than walk in further from shore and have the water level creeping up your legs and lapping at your crotch. At least the air temp was a bit warmer. I can't imagine swimming with ice and snow floating around and freezing air temperatures too.
