I got my smiley face stuck after the letter C, (fixed it) so I guess you missed the sense of humor.
The thread was about a white middle aged woman who got gunned down after her husband first threatened a Census worker...the cops showed up and he brandished a gun towards them.  They threw him to the ground and his wife waved a shotgun at them and they fired.  White upper middle class. One fatality.

We'll know more soon..since this turned out to be violent, we can only assume it was promulgated by the leftists.

On the other hand the people from the left protesting Tea Baggers and Ann Coulter doing a speech have incited violence and been violent.  The party of diversity is not happy with any views other than their own and shut down free speech if it isn't their point of view quite often.   Shocked  Their are numerous examples of this behavior from the left including the recent protest of Arizona's Immigration Law and Ann Coulter in Canada.

Do you have any examples for any of these statements?  direct quotes from Glenn Beck or something will do. Wink

Clover,  It didn't take long.  Today's Globe.  We can not criticize OTO or we are seditious or racist.  Fox news and all talk radio should be regulated, is what we have been hearing for months.  In the meantime no press conferences with questions for many months.  In a speech the last week OTO said that the American people are getting too much information and it is confusing them.  See, we are too ignorant to figure it out and he knows best.   Roll Eyes  OK, sorry for the hijack.  Wink

"Governor Deval Patrick, even as he decried partisanship in Washington, said today that Republican opposition to President Obama’s agenda has become so obstinate that it “is almost at the level of sedition.”

The Democratic governor, who is close to the president, made the comments at a forum at Suffolk Law School's Rappaport Center, where he was asked by an audience member about partisan battling in Congress.

Patrick said that even "on my worst day, when I’m most frustrated about folks who seem to rooting for failure," he doesn't face anything like the opposition faced by the president."

;)Well I got the last laugh. After nobody could find me here in San Pedro, my real estate agent at my house for sale for two years, got "visited" while a painter was fixing some plaster from the bad winter.
she said this guy asked to call him at blah, blah blah phone number.
So, for a hoot I did, he didn't ask me anything after I said the house is for sale and I don't live there.
I said bye bye from Belize!

my 71yr old census worker tracked me down at the office today via phone. At first insisting I come home and meet her there this afternoon, I told her that was not going to happen and I honestly had no idea what time I might be going there this evening, or the rest of the week for that matter.  I suggested she could come by my office,, if she was so inclined,  and I could probably squeeze the 5 minutes into my schedule sometime in the afternoon.  She allowed as how she was much too busy to possibly do that as she had all these people to run down who had not mailed in their forms and had to be done by May 31.  I said, well, if you had mailed me one, I would likely have returned it, saving the taxpayers all this time & effort.

Her response cracked me up.........Oh, we do not mail them to PO Boxes, we cannot count on the USPS to deliver them!!  When I asked if that was actually a true statement (I since learned it is, at least here) and she replied "I think so", I was met with an awkward silence when I noted that since the USPS could not be trusted to deliver them to PO Boxholders, forward, etc, then how in the hell can you trust that those which were delivered by mail carrier would get back to the Census Bureau.  Ridiculous enough in her statement, but 98% of the people in my town have PO Box service, not door-to-door.

After a lot of stuttering & stammering, in the end, 4 simple non-threating, non-disclosing questions and done.

Amazing, but true.

Mike today's example.  Press asks too many questions about some thing that is a little embarrassing. I'm sure I could find more today but not bad in the first 2 minutes of being on line.  Grin  I've had a long day so that will end my search, for today.  Wink

LOL- The press secretary's job is to control information from the White House...that's why they're called Press releases.  Since there was a Republican in the White House last time you probably didn't have any call to question what was and wasn't freedom of speech then.

"The Bush team promised to crimp the flow of information from the White House and Fleischer executed that policy masterfully."

Even at that neither one of these men are suppressing free speech.......they're controlling the flow of information from the White House...like every other President before them ...there's a difference.

There you go again.  This is his opinion.....where is the suspension of 1st amendment rights?  You state "We cannot criticize Obama or we are seditious or racist".  Who says...Mr Patrick?  LOL  You guys sure know how to spin facts into talking points and paranoia.  I'm still looking for proof that someone is "shutting down free speech""    Keep working on it!

:)Gosh Clover? Crack pipe? Everybody around SP knows what a straight arrow I am, except for some rum and wine. I really did say Bye Bye from Belize. Also, when I called the census guy, I got about what someone else said...4 non-personal questions. I guess when you don't live in the USofA, they really don't give a damn.

Obama creating jobs through the Census??

Updated: Tue., May. 25, 2010, 1:23 AM
Two more Census workers blow the whistle
By JOHN CRUDELE

Last Updated: 1:23 AM, May 25, 2010

Posted: 12:42 AM, May 25, 2010

You know the old saying: "Everyone loves a charade." Well, it seems that the Census Bureau may be playing games.

Last week, one of the millions of workers hired by Census 2010 to parade around the country counting Americans blew the whistle on some statistical tricks.

The worker, Naomi Cohn, told The Post that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census. Each time she was hired back, it seems, Census was able to report the creation of a new job to the Labor Department.

Below, I have a couple more readers who worked for Census 2010 and have tales to tell.

But first, this much we know.

Each month Census gives Labor a figure on the number of workers it has hired. That figure goes into the closely followed monthly employment report Labor provides. For the past two months the hiring by Census has made up a good portion of the new jobs.

Labor doesn't check the Census hiring figure or whether the jobs are actually new or recycled. It considers a new job to have been created if someone is hired to work at least one hour a month.

One hour! A month! So, if a worker is terminated after only one hour and another is hired in her place, then a second new job can apparently be reported to Labor . (I've been unable to get Census to explain this to me.)

Here's a note from a Census worker -- this one from Manhattan:

"John: I am on my fourth rehire with the 2010 Census.

"I have been hired, trained for a week, given a few hours of work, then laid off. So my unemployed self now counts for four new jobs.

"I have been paid more to train all four times than I have been paid to actually produce results. These are my tax dollars and your tax dollars at work.

"A few months ago I was trained for three days and offered five hours of work counting the homeless. Now, I am knocking (on) doors trying to find the people that have not returned their Census forms. I worked the 2000 Census. It was a far more organized venture.

"Have to run and meet my crew leader, even though with this rain I did not work today. So I can put in a pay sheet for the hour or hour and a half this meeting will take. Sincerely, C.M."

And here's another:

"John: I worked for (Census) and I was paid $18.75 (an hour) just like Ms. Naomi Cohn from your article.

"I worked for about six weeks or so and I picked the hours I wanted to work. I was checking the work of others. While I was classifying addresses, another junior supervisor was checking my work.

"In short, we had a "checkers checking checkers" quality control. I was eventually let go and was told all the work was finished when, in fact, other people were being trained for the same assignment(s).

"I was re-hired about eight months later and was informed that I would have to go through one week of additional training.

"On the third day of training, I got sick and visited my doctor. I called my supervisor and asked how I can make up the class. She informed me that I was 'terminated.' She elaborated that she had to terminate three other people for being five minutes late to class.

"I did get two days' pay and I am sure the 'late people' got paid also. I think you would concur that this is an expensive way to attempt to control sickness plus lateness. I am totally convinced that the Census work could be very easily done by the US Postal Service.

"When I was trying to look for an address or had a question about a building, I would ask the postman on the beat. They knew the history of the route and can expand in detail who moved in or out etc. I have found it interesting that if someone works one hour, they are included in the labor statistics as a new job being full.

"I am not surprised that you can't get any answers from Census staff; I found there were very few people who knew the big picture. M.G."

When I received my Census form in the mail, I filled it out. Nobody had to knock on my door.

I answered truthfully about the number of people living in my household. But I could have just as easily dou bled the number. Why not? Didn't Census ad vertisements imply that my community would get more federal money if the popula tion were larger?

I'm glad people are finding work with the Census. For some it's the only work they have had this year and the chump change they are making for a few hours' work is a godsend.

But wasting taxpayers' money on busywork isn't going to do much for the economy. john.crudele@nypost.com

A retired friend of my in-laws was hired @ $17.75/hr the first time. After paid training and 4 days of work (this guy is an over-acheiver and was turning in 40% more completions than the rest of his team) he was let go. 3 days later, rehired and told this was going to be a pattern. The supervisor told him it was a directive. 4 rehires later (which included a raise to $18.75/hr) he finished.

It's now public that these actions skewed the employment rates drastically and those figures were cited by the administration as positive gains in recovery (without mentioning the cnesus workers).

July 7, 2010 - WELL SLAP MY ASS AND CALL MY MOMMA!!!!!!!!

I can not believe this. You guessed it. A census worker just showed up at my door wanting to get some information. I told her I had completed my form and mailed it in before April 1. She said she understood, but they were doing random follow-ups. I asked if I was on some list and she said no. I asked is they showed I failed to complete the form, she said no. I asked her what she was doing there and she said she was only doing what she was told.

I tried to explain to her the cost associated with her being there and she could not rationalize anything beyond getting my name, age, and number of persons living here. I told her the age question was not allowed. She agreed. I told her again nicely I was not giving her any info and she told me..... get ready for this.... she could just look it up!

I told her to go ahead and falsify a federal government record. She is not happy with me. She did say someone else would come back. Should I barricade myself in?

What a costly mess!  Kind of makes one wonder how badly the final numbers will be skewed.....   scary stuff indeed.
