Pedro's and SPAH raided by Immigration/Police/Customs

I was in Ivo's new coffee shop when I got a call from Laurie Jackson (my asst. manager) who said there were the police/immigration/customs personnel at the gate with a search warrant issued in SP of todays date,and I better come back immediately.

When I got back there was Laurie(the vet) with the immigration officer, who had not waited for me,investigating all her paperwork which he ruled was a 100% correct.I asked him if it had not been correct what would have happened and he said she probably would have been taken into custody.

The customs and the police went to my bar examined every bottle,then to the liquor store room,and then into my house-they found nothing illegal,and by this time they were apologising as they had been told to come by various luminaries on a charity board,who had been making lots of calls to the heads of their respective organisations-this could be looked as an abuse of privilege.

My question is what is charity,what would have happened to the animals of SP if Laurie had been kicked out of the country-well for one thing there would be no vet-how many animals would have died because of petty dislikes-it appears to me at least that various people who profess liking animals really do not care about them at all.

I wonder how many bars on this island have  illegal commodities for sale in their bars -some should be careful-when you open the can it is difficult to close it

How many vets offices and bars have been raided this month in San Pedro

I assume they were looking for a proper work permit. Not even vets are above the law.

Laurie has always had a work permit (we got her new permit in nov. which we paid for 2000bzd-so while she working out her notice we had paid for herto work) except when she first worked for SAGA,and it took them 6 weeks to get her one-immigration would never have come in here unless forced to do so-they are mainly worried about foreigners taking away jobs from Belizeans-there has never been a Belizean vet work on this island.

If this is true, I will never stop throwing up.   Nor will I stop exposing this - surely SAGA will not see any meaningful donations if Pedro's post proves to be true.   I will out the SAGA board members' actions and those who they may have induced to act by harrassing and vandalizing SPAH.  Here, there and everywhere.   It would not be surprising if some or all of the board members are no longer anywhere near SAGA in the future, if SAGA manages to survive the horrible publicity it will incur if this is true.   Question is:  why is the SAGA board so intent on harrassing and vandalizing SPAH?  is it more than a falling out between the vet and the board?  is it threatened by the success of the SPAH?   are the SAGA board unwilling to spend the donations on animal vet care?  many more questions to ask.  

They may have just rounded the corner to the wrong side of the road.

The truth is that we will probably never know for certain if the authorities were acting on a tip-off, let alone who gave it to them.

Nonsense.   I absolutely hope that Pedro's allegations are untrue.   I still cannot fathom such behavior from people who profess to have concern for 'animal welfare'.    Like Barnacle said, if the vet would have been taken into custody, who would be there for the animals?   Little Ginger is recovering and is under observation still - she need vet care as do many others who SAGA appears to be disuading from seeking same from the vet.

God forbid we have lay people hacking on strays 'performing' spays and neuters (as current board member(s) who shall remain nameless at this time have done) as was done in the past when no vet practiced on the island and for whom SAGA did not pay a vet to perform.   God forbid.  

I travel to SP several times a year, Phil, and have for over 10 years.   I have friends there.  I plan to retire there.  It is a small world.  I know some of the board members personally (I did not say that I don't like them .  People talk, especially in SP LOL.
